about

After reading Ephesians with a group of friends about 35 times in the span of a few months, this song kind of created itself. It comes mainly from Ephesians 2, but there are references to other passages as well.

lyrics

We were once dead
Dead in trespasses
Following the course of this world
Following the prince of the power of the air
Dead in the ground we were

We were 6 feet under
We were

We were once orphans
Fatherless we wandered
Straight toward our fiery graves
Living in our passions
Rotten in our bones
The flesh does not seek to be saved

But God, rich in mercy
Adopted the wicked as sons
Blessed inheritance
Precious the price
Immeasurable riches of kindness in Christ

We are his workmanship
And he is our cornerstone
We are the church being built
By the Spirit through Christ as the Father’s new home
For we are his dwelling place
And he is our source of life
Only Yahweh can choose his people from children of wrath
And make them his beautiful wife

Oh God, rich in mercy
Predestined his loved ones to life
By grace and through faith
Not by works, but by blood
By grace, wicked dead men revived
